Old works make sense now

The only connection between the texts “ The Star “ and “ The Music Of The Sphere “ written  by “A. Gray“ and “John Banville “ respectively is the possesion of something material, they are two stories completely different except for this.

We have, on one hand, a poor boy who feels alone until he finds something that no one in the world could own, a fallen star, although it is an object, the star became, in some way, the relationship that he never had and he always want. On the other hand we have an adult who has a normal life but needs something material to feel confident.  We can distinguish between their dependece, while the boy needs the star as well as his life because is the only thing he has, the second one can survive without the sphere.
In the second text the author talks about freedom, freedom when he lost his beloved sphere, as I see it he is refering to the dependence of an object that we do not need at all but we “can´t” live without and only when he loses it he notice he doesn´t really need the sphere. In the first case, in my opinion the freedom comes too when he “turn one” with the star because thats the moment when he leave behind all of his unpleassant life. Related to that, I think everyone should ask herself, do the thing we own own us? does they really takes our freedoms away?

Both texts reflects the human need of own things just to reassert theirselves in the society and feel more confident in front of others. Historically, the needs have been changing according to its times but they have never diappeared, since the moment when several persons were together the desire of have more, or at least, the same than others does exist. So, to conclude, I think we should be carefully, because probably, the things we own, end up owning us.
